It all started with a trip to Dollar Tree (as most of my craft ideas do). I spotted a pack of wood slices and thought, “These would make the cutest little turkeys!” Before I knew it, my cart was filled with googly eyes, construction paper, and a handful of faux fall leaves — everything we’d need for our next cozy afternoon craft session.
If you’re looking for a Thanksgiving craft idea that’s perfect for kids of all ages, this one’s a winner. It’s quick, affordable, and adds the sweetest personal touch to your Thanksgiving table.
Supplies You’ll Need
Here’s everything we used for our little flock of fun turkeys:
- Small wood slices (Dollar Tree for the win!) or Amazon if your Dollar Tree is out
- Faux fall leaves (red, orange, and yellow)
- Googly eyes
- Orange and red construction paper
- Craft glue or hot glue gun (grown-ups only!)
- Scissors

How to Make a Wood Slice Turkey
Step 1: Glue down feathers
Once you’ve found a feather pattern you love, carefully lift each leaf and use your craft glue to secure it to the back of the wood slice. Work your way around, layering the leaves to create a full, colorful tail. As the feathers fan out in those beautiful fall shades of red, orange, and yellow, you’ll see your simple wood slice transform into a real turkey shape, it’s the moment your little project starts to come alive!

Step 2: Add tiny Feet
Cut out two small triangles from orange paper and glue them at the bottom of your wood slice turkey craft. Those little feet just make me smile every time, it’s amazing how something so simple can give your unique turkey so much personality.

Step 3: add the googly eyes
Glue the googly eyes near the top of the wood slice to give your turkey a cheerful expression. Be sure to leave a little space below for the beak and wattle, you’ll need room to bring your turkey’s cute face to life!

Step 4: finish the turkey’s face
Cut a small orange triangle for the beak and a red teardrop shape for the wattle (that little squiggly thing on a turkey’s neck). Then glue the beak and wattle below the eyes. Suddenly, your little guy has a face!
