Craft Supply List:

  • Rocks (flat rocks are best)
  • Watercolor Pencils
  • Paintbrush
  • Jar of water or an Aguamenti spell
  • Paper towels
  • Paint Pens or acrylic paint
  • Pencil
  • Transfer paper

Rock Painting Tips

  • A varnish clear sealer may be used on your painted rocks to ensure that they are scratch- and moisture-resistant. I prefer using a spray sealer on my painted stones.
  • The best way to make your colors to be vibrant and “pop” is to apply a base coat to the top of the rocks.
  • Highlight your painted rock by outlining your artwork with a darker color or black paint pen. It really makes your artwork stand out!

Harry Potter “HP” Painted Rock

I used santorini stone for both Harry Potter painted rock craft projects. The white smooth rocks are beautiful and has a slight sparkle as well.

Step 1: I wanted to use the colors of the Hogwarts House of Gryffindor’s colors of Red and Gold. I used my red and gold paint pen and made slightly angled stripes across the stone.

Step Two: Sometimes, when I’m making designs that I need a little help with, I use white transfer paper to trace on top of my rock. Using transfer paper will help you achieve the finished look you want.

Step Three: After the HP has been traced on your stone, use a black paint pen to outline and fill in.

I love to experiment with different art mediums. I wanted the background to have a watercolor effect, so I used my Faber-Castell Watercolor pencils

Step One: Color your stone with a blue watercolor pencil.
